Graphic Design
Optimistic Realism builds lasting impressions with imagery that conveys the client’s desired message in his or her intended tone of voice. Our artists take into account the fundamental design principles: balance, proportion, rhythm, emphasis, and unity; employing these phenomena as guidelines for creating images that are compositionally sensible, clever, and sophisticated. Graphic design services include: digital image processing, illustration, photo enhancement, T-shirt design, and album cover art.
Album Cover: The Flying Rickshaw is a music recording artist. Before the release of the band's first album, this graphic image appeared on promotional fliers, T-shirts, and on a giant stage banner. The moon silhouette, reminiscent of the movie E.T., later became the band's predominant and enduring brand image, appearing on the front cover of The Flying Rickshaw's self-titled debut record. The band relocated from Missoula, Montana, to Portland, Oregon in 2007, where they are now based. View the image.
T-shirt Design: T4U is an apparel company specializing in avant-garde, ultramodern T-shirts. The chameleon, able to change its skin color, appears in this design as a symbol for change, identifying with the famous Mahatma Gandhi quote: "Be the change you want to see in the world." These words are written upside-down on this shirt so that the wearer sees the message repeatedly, perhaps each time he or she looks down. View the image.
Graphic Image: As an innovator in software technology providing automated 3D mapping and modeling of urban areas, Visual Learning Systems needed a meaningful graphic symbol. This graphic image conveys the cutting-edge 3D visualization capability of the company and its software, closely resembling the simple LegoLand models that are easily interpreted by the company’s primary client base: the U.S. Department of Defense. 04 Vector Icons: Systemware is a software company specializing in content management solutions for some of the world’s largest banking and retail organizations. As part of an extensive marketing campaign focused on enhancing the corporate image, O.R. artist Cabe Lindsay designed a collection of vector icons to be used online and in print for the purpose of illustrating Systemware’s various strategies, methods, and tools. 05 Graphic Image: The Emily Sandall Memorial is a non-profit organization remembering the late Emily Sandall, who died tragically while rock climbing in Yosemite National Park. An annual "fun run" began in her honor. The 5K Emu Run takes place on the scenic Waterworks Hill, overlooking Missoula, Montana, one of Emily's favorite places to be. View the image.
Graphic Art: This piece is one in a series of images designed as a gift for a dog lover with three Italian greyhounds. The stylized imagery originated from digital photos taken by Optimistic Realism. Superimposed on the artwork is hand-written poetry inspired by the dogs, also written by O.R. View the image.
Tattoo Art: Angels are described, in the Bible and elsewhere, as pure and bright as heaven, and they are said to be encompassed by light. The client who envisioned this angel described her prospective tattoo as something different, subtle, classy, and elegant. This tattoo is an all-white figure designed to remind the client about the purity and grace that inspired this tattoo in the first place. View the image.
Diagram Illustration: Systemware focuses on organizing vast amounts of information and enabling clients to efficiently access this information. Because of the technical nature of its products, Systemware created illustrative diagrams to enable customers to see the benefits more clearly. View a selection of these diagrams.
T-shirt Design: Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit community service institution providing homes for families in need. This shirt celebrated and thanked the children involved in a 2007 youth program that involved helping to build houses for people in need. View the image.
Album Cover: Grabfast is a music recording artist. The band's second release, Something Better, was published in 2002 while the band toured in the Rocky Mountain region before relocating to the East Coast. This album cover, also a T-shirt design, reflects the nature and theme of the record, which has been described as "young, unrestrained, and truthful modern rock." View the image.
T-shirt Design: This T4U design is inspired by Richard Bach's Jonathan Livingston Seagull, a classic fable in novella form, adored among students ranging from universities to elementary schools. Driven by a passion for flight, the heroic seagull symbolizes self-sacrifice and the pursuit of higher learning. The T-shirt reads: "I am Jonathan Livingston Seagull," when observed in a mirror.
